Drop Test: Nook Tablet vs Kindle Fire

Hey,

So we finally completed our drop test, and only one of the devices survived. You’ll have to watch the video to see which one. The test started out with a 3′ and then 5′ drop to carpet; it was followed by a 3′ and 5′ drops onto concrete, with the final test being a simultaneous drop facedown. The video was complete with super-slow motion recording, courtesy of two GoPro cameras–one of which is dropped with the devices as they fall. You can check out the video below.

Please note the video is asking you to subscribe and comment on the YouTube Channel and YouTube Video. Though we love comments posted on this website too! They just don’t count as entering the giveaway! Thanks!

If I comment that I want the broken Fire, can I win that? Even broken, I’d rather have the Fire. ;)

Awesome test, but yeah, it made a bit queasy to watch it.

You have to destroy the Kindle Fire, with … ummm, FIRE!

    Barbecue the bad boy!

    Nuke it in the microwave!

Nice and creative way to stress test the devices gents! Now, for the ultimate test, should I win the Nook, I’ll put it through a rigorous read+sleep on it+drool on it test, and we’ll see how it holds up as I fend off the sandman and read Gizmoslip and my RSS feed before bedtime. Shoot, I bet it takes several more bed-to-floor falls in it’s lifetime. Ha! As for the Kindle FIRE, let’s cremate it while playing the Doors, Cmmon baby lite my FIRE!

Thanks for posting the drop test! I was thinking about buying the Fire but this has sealed the deal for me!!

Regarding the Kindle tablet… I’m curious about the max capacity of 1gb of dedicated space for personal music, etc. Can you still store media on a microSD card and simply plug and play into the device or is there some sort of program that prohibits this? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but i’m not a tech-savy consumer…yet! With the help of Gizmo Slip…maybe that can change.

BTW…Since Thanksgiving is this week… how about some Deep Fried Fire… after the Fried Turkey is done of course!

    Thanks for the site guys!

I’d really give a try to the nook! (You can flash cyanogenmod to it). As for the Kindle fire? what better way to kill this “fire” with its natural enemy… Cold! (actually water) dump it in liquid nitrogen and blast that motherf@#$er

You seriously need to destroy the one that broke by sending it thru tree chipper….watch it come out the other end in a million pieces….lol

I think it would be great to wire a 110 (or 220 if you can) power cord to a mini USB and give the Kindle Fire one last good “charge”

  9. Martens says:

To destroy Kindle Fire, i suggest you to put him into liquid nitrogen and then drop from 5 or 6 feet.

as I said on youtube, its a shame that a gadget had to die.. but if it has to go out, then let it go out with a bang! I say hard fry it, microwave it, stick it in a plastic bag, and smash it… then put the remains in a plastic bag, and tie it to a firework and light the baby.

as I stated, let it go out with a bang.

insane amounts of youtube views guaranteed.

Interesting test, and I think you are right that the edge to edge screen is probably the cause of the screen shattering.

I think I would like to see how the Fire does against its namesake…so….

    Burn baby, burn!

Would love to see you destroy the Fire by BBQ it on a grill. Then serve burgers and hot dogs. As for the Nook I maybe not be the clumsiest person in the world but it’s nice to know it can take a fall. With the Kindle and Fire being so evenly matched it is these little things that make the difference. Glad to see Gorilla Glass given a good test.

Set the fire ablaze! Great test guys! I just found a new favorite tech site. Great use of the drop cam, really compelling, informative stuff. Its nice to know what can stand up to real world abuse. I can see a lot sad fire owners in the near future with those shattered flush screens.

As for.the fire’s fate… soak it in lighter fluid and shoot a flaming arrow into it. Appropriately badass i think!
